During this time it is acknowledged that virtual recruitment methods are more likely to be used than face-to-face. This is not necessarily a bad thing! There are vast number of tools designed to aid recruiters through virtual platforms, some examples are;
- Online talent assessments these are used to help understand candidates competencies, behaviours and abilities
- Virtual assessment centre this may include tasks such as role play, case studies. You can also use this tool to assess behaviour and capability
- Remote interviewing via the phone or video assessments
Employers can make the most out of virtual recruitment. Here are some top tips:
- Ensure candidates are clear on the communication method being used and understand how to use this.
Do not assume that everyone is familiar with virtual online tools. Design clear guidance for candidates to follow and make yourself available to talk through any snagging issues. You want to mitigate against a worked up candidate because they will not perform at their best. If you have the time perform a trial run, so all parties understand the communication method and any issues identified can be ironed out.
- Test your virtual software to ensure that it measures up to what you would do during face-to-face assessments
When designing your recruitment method make sure you still have set measures in place to be able to adequately assess your candidates. These measures may differ from a face-to-face interview but should be no less focused. Plan effectively and test your processes.
- Encourage engagement
Ensure you are engaging with the candidate just as you would if they were face-to-face, you want your candidate to feel that this is a two-way process. Providing feedback following an interview process is good practice. It allows candidates to value the decisions made and sends the right message about your organisation.
If remote recruitment is implemented correctly you should see a decrease in; travel time and recruitment costs (refreshments, venues etc). Whilst also saving panel members and your candidates time.
