Firms will be asked for their views on private sector IR35 enforcement with results feeding into the upcoming Finance Bill.
As you may be aware IR35 is legislation that identifies self-employed contractors who work through a limited company but only work for one organisation. This results in payment of less tax than would be the case if the individual was employed.
Until recently it only applied to the private sector but in April 2017 it became applicable to public bodies as well.
The latest news came earlier this month when the government launched a consultation on its future plans for IR35. They have asked organisations to provide their reviews on proposed reforms and the best way to communicate and educate organisations about the legislation.
The new rules will operate from April 2020 and will be enforced by the Finance Bill which is expected to be published in the summer. Organisations have until 28th May to provide thoughts.
You can access the consultation on this link https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/off-payroll-working-rules-from-april-2020. Feedback has been requested to be forwarded by email to [email protected]. As mentioned this is open until 11:45pm on 28 May 2019.
We will update any results on this blog when they are released.
