Performance management cycles are likely to have started before COVID-19 was even heard of. How can you manage performance when your workplace may have been closed for a number of months, or at the very least when other priorities will have come into play?
Performance management can still happen. Review those targets with each staff member and consider if they need adjusting. Are they still relevant? Are they still achievable? It is likely that the targets need to be brought in line with what is achievable for the period the staff member has been in work. Look at the bigger picture for the remainder of the performance management cycle and map this to the targets of each staff member. Ensure managers who are undertaking performance management understand what your school or business is trying to achieve for the remainder of this period.
Tracking performance in a HR holistic system, can enable you to see the employee’s absences, objectives, working patterns and any supporting information all in one place. To approach Performance Management on it’s own during this period is difficult, you do need to consider the bigger picture. Having a system that helps you to do this could help. In our SAMpeople system for example, an employee can add updates and you can instantly set objectives for performance management. Objectives can be tracked and progress recorded. If you would like to know more about SAMpeople, please book to attend our Introduction Webinars or request a personal demonstration.
