All schools that received SLT funding are required to now submit a Year-End Statement for the School-Led Tutoring grant. The Department for Education (DfE) has produced an article to support schools in filling out this form and the team here at FEPS have written an easy-to-read blog for you.
Schools are required to submit this form by the 9th of September 2022 (Edit: now extended to 30th September 2022), so it is best to get ahead and submit this as soon as the SLT provision for the academic year 2021 to 2022 has been completed. Even if your school chose not to use the grant, you must still complete the Year-End Statement. If the grant has not been fully used or used at all, the monies will be recovered as an overpayment by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).
There have been two guidance forms created by the Department for Education: One for schools, academies, and independent special schools and one for Local Authorities and Virtual School Heads. We will link both at the end of this blog for you to access at your leisure.
School-Led Tutoring was tuition delivered by schools and local authorities to help disadvantaged and vulnerable students in years 1-11. The schools could use the grant to provide their own teaching staff or contract in external tutors. This funding could not be used for tuition delivered by Academic Mentors (AMs) or Tuition Partners (TPs) booked through Randstad.
The forms need to be completed to see how the grant has been spent and what, if any, is left over. The leftover grant amount will be recovered by ESFA, which the DfE expect to take place in December. The form will need to be completed only once all the SLT has been delivered for the academic year 2022 to 2022. The date for completion of SLT is 31st August 2022. The DfE has recommended that if tuition is not taking place over the summer holidays, that the form is completed by late July. If the form is not completed and returned in time, the ESFA will automatically count your grant as ‘unused’ and will recover the full amount.
The Department for Education has requested that Education providers completing the form should read the guidance before filling in the Year-End Statement. You will need to have this information ready before starting as stated by the DfE:
- The total amount of money you have spent on SLT (combined total of any funding you have spent on SLT combined with the money you have spent from the SLT grant). If you have received allocations for both mainstream and specialist pupils, you will need two figures.
- The number of hours of SLT that your school has delivered.
- The number of pupils who have received SLT tuition.
- You should not include tuition that is already a part of a pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan. The SLT should be tutoring in addition to this.
- You should not include any information here that relates to tuition delivered or money spent on AMs or TPs if organised through the Tuition Hub.
