FusionHR and SAM as companies both work hard to support local charities, specifically those related to children. When we heard that Thorncliffe Under 9’s Football Team had been asked to play a tournament in Germany we just had to help.
The under 9’s are part of Thorncliffe FC which was formed in 1998 and now has over 20 teams (boys/girls and adults). The home ground is the state of the art facilities at St George’s Park, Thorncliffe (near High Green) where the team train and play home games.
The under 9’s are this year’s Sheffield and District Cup Winners beating the likes of Handsworth and the Young Owls to lift the U9’s trophy. Therefore the best under 9’s in the Sheffield District!
Adie Roebuck is the coach of the under 9’s and has long wanted to organise a tournament abroad for the boys. Coaching the team since many of the lads were 5 years’ old, he connected with the coach of a German youth team and from 
that point the trip spiralled.
The boys raised the funds for the trip by lots of activities including packing bags at the Hillsborough Morrisons. Staff Absence Management (SAM software) was delighted to support the team and feature on their shirt along with Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice who the boys were fundraising for as part of the trip.
The lads travelled to Berlin on 13 June and have had an amazing time. Almost 20 boys travelled with the 3 coaches along with parents to Berlin.
Eight teams took part in the Saturday tournament as well as teams from in and around Berlin, but we are delighted to announce that our boys won! Not just champions of Sheffield, but Champions of Europe now too! Well done boys! We are so proud of you!
