We thought it would be useful to provide you with our 10 top tips for the approaching vaccine roll-out programme.
Our top tips;
- Promote the vaccine as much as possible within your organisation; the benefits, the data.
- Keep your ear to the ground with any false information that is spreading and try to dispel this.
- Set out your expectations that everyone who is offered the vaccine should take it as soon as it is offered
- Understand that there may be some people who are not offered the vaccine due to medical reasons
- The vaccine is optional, no-one is forced to have it
- Support your staff to take the vaccine rather than requiring them to have it e.g. paid time off to attend appointments
- Involve any local community groups if it can be mutually beneficial
- You can ask staff to evidence that they have had the vaccine. This will be relevant information for your risk assessments
- Ultimately not having the vaccine may impact on a staff member’s ability to do their specific job but ensure you take specialist advice before approaching this and try and reach an agreement first
- Employers may be challenged on the grounds of discrimination if they insist on staff having the vaccine – e.g. disability (employees with certain medical conditions will not be able to have the vaccine), pregnancy (pregnant women are currently not being offered the vaccine), age (younger employees are not yet being offered the vaccine)
We strongly encourage that you consult with your HR Consultant if you have a member of staff who is experiencing Long COVID as each case will need to be dealt with on an individual basis. You can also find out more about Long COVID on our blog.
