We’ve had a few queries about Single Central Register recently, specifically in relation to the obligation under the mandatory section of prohibition and HLTAs, therefore we just wanted to reconfirm what the requirements are.
Back in August 2013 the legislation changed. It required you to check all HLTAs as well as qualified and unqualified teachers against the NCTL prohibited list before they started work from 2nd September 2013. This requirement does not extend to teaching assistants but does include Volunteers who will be teaching.
To make sure your Single Central Register is up-to-date and compliant you should include these checks. When you check teachers against the list you can look for a TRN number but with HLTAs you have to look them up by name and they are listed alphabetically.
Make sure you record that these checks have been completed as part of your SCR. If you have any queries about SCR requirements, SCR reviews or Safeguarding please get in touch. Our team are happy to help and we also have a review service, documents package and training which can help you to manage your SCR effectively.
